Taxes-what kind of taxes are there?
1) Income taxes: how much I make
-federal government, most taxes go to them
-state government, takes a chuck of your income
-local government
2) Payroll taxes
-social security: withheld 6.2% of earnings up to 94,200
-medicare
-Together referred to as FICA : If you earn less than 94,200, you pay a total of 7.65% in FICA taxes and the government gets 15.3%
3) Sales taxes
-California 7.25%+
-Often exemptions for things like food
4) Wealthy taxes
-Estate taxes
-gift taxes
